5kVIZ is designed with privacy by design. We do not collect, store, or transmit:

• Your parkrun results or performance data
• Personal information (name, email, location)
• Browsing history or behaviour
• Any data from your parkrun account
• Analytics about your usage patterns

What we may collect

The only information we may collect is:

• Extension preferences: Settings you configure are stored locally in your browser only

2. How 5kVIZ works

Local-first architecture

5kVIZ operates entirely within your browser:

• The extension reads data that's already visible on your parkrun results page
• All calculations, analytics, and visualisations happen on your device
• No data is sent to external servers or databases
• Shareables are generated locally and saved to your device

Data processing

When you visit a parkrun results page:

1. 5kVIZ reads the data already displayed on the page
2. Analytics are calculated in real-time using JavaScript
3. Charts and visualisations are generated in your browser

Your results data is parsed from the page you're looking at and held in memory only while that page is open — it is never written anywhere. Separately, 5kVIZ stores a small amount of configuration in your browser's own extension storage: your saved parkrunners, whether you've dismissed the latest changelog, and your chart animation preference.

3. Browser permissions

Required permissions

5kVIZ requests these minimal permissions:

• Access to parkrun: To read and enhance your results pages
• Storage: To save your preferences and settings locally in your browser
• Downloads: For saving shareables

What we don't request

Unlike many extensions, 5kVIZ does not request:

• Access to all websites
• Network/internet access for data transmission
• Camera, microphone, or location permissions

Our website operates separately from the browser extension:

• Analytics: We use Umami analytics to understand website usage patterns - this data is anonymised and privacy-focused
• No personal data collection: We don't collect personal information directly through our website
• Third-party services: We minimise third-party integrations and disclose any used

Cookies

Our website uses minimal cookies:

• Essential cookies: Required for basic website functionality
• Analytics cookies: Our analytics provider, Umami, does not use cookies at all. It records anonymised page views without setting anything on your device or tracking you between sites.
• No advertising cookies: We don't use cookies for advertising or behavioural tracking

5. Data sharing and disclosure

No data sharing

Because we don't collect your parkrun data, there's nothing to share. We do not:

• Sell your information to third parties
• Share data with advertisers
• Provide data to analytics companies
• Share information with parkrun or any other organisations

In the unlikely event that we're legally required to disclose information:

• We would only disclose information we actually possess (very limited)

8. Children's privacy

5kVIZ is for anyone who takes part in parkrun.

• Open to everyone: There's no age restriction. If you run, walk, volunteer or just like looking at the data, it's for you
• Nothing collected, at any age: We hold no personal information about anyone, so there's nothing for us to hold about a child either
• junior parkrun isn't charted yet: 2k events are left out of the statistics so they don't distort 5k averages — a limit on what we chart, not on who can use it
• Parental supervision: As with any browser extension, we'd suggest a parent or guardian is involved when a younger parkrunner installs one

5kVIZ is developed by a UK-based company:

• UK based: Lumintica Studio operates from the United Kingdom
• Local processing: Your parkrun data never leaves your device
• GDPR compliance: We follow UK and EU data protection standards
